A Collaborative Process
The construction involved a well-organized collaborative process of detailing and fabrication. Working in concert, Regal Steel Group detailed and fabricated the Steel Columns and Beams and a 3rd party, certified fabricator, produced the Steel Bar Joists and Metal Decking. After a careful survey of the foundation and Column Anchor Bolts, the columns were installed in pre-determined phases to work within the small footprint of the jobsite. Beams and Joists were then installed according to a similar multi-phase plan, followed lastly by Metal Decking. Connections consisted of Bolts and Welding. The phasing plan was the result of multiple pre-installation meetings with the general contractor and the erector prior to delivery of the steel. Using Union erectors allowed for careful planning based on previous project experiences, along with knowledgeable field workers skilled in operating a wide range of equipment and tools to set the steel safely and efficiently.
Once the Steel framing was in place, the construction team began adding the walls, roof, and finishes to complete the building The new addition included a parking garage, several classrooms, conference rooms, and a library.
Seamless integration, an improved learning environment, and a long-lasting solution
The use of Structural Steel for building’s structure proved to be a cost effective and efficient solution, allowing for a quick installation process. Due to the high loads created by an active student body on a school day, the steel provided the necessary strength and support for the addition, which also allowed for a seamless integration with the existing building.
The new addition to the school provided much-needed classroom space for the growing student population. The students and staff now have access to modern, spacious classrooms that enhance the learning environment and promote student success.
Overall, the use of structural steel for the school addition enabled the school board meet the needs of their expanding community while providing a durable and long-lasting solution for the future.
